DUI Laws & Penalties

In Colorado, it is illegal to operate vehicle with a blood alcohol content of .08% or higher. If you are pulled over and submit to a blood or breath test that reveals an illegal blood alcohol content, you will be arrested and charged with "DUI per se." Additional charges of "driving while impaired" may be added if the arresting officer noticed dangerous driving or if you fail a field sobriety test.

Penalties for a first offense DUI include:

• $600 to $1,000 fine
• License suspended for 9 months
• Ignition Interlock Device for 8 months
• 48 to 96 hours of public service
