Avoid a DUI this Fourth of July

Avoid a DUI this Fourth of July

Fourth of July is one of the most exciting holidays we look forward to all year, as it is the perfect reason to come together with our friends and family to celebrate what is a wonderful commemoration of our nation. With Fourth of July around the corner, you likely already have plans to celebrate with your loved ones, and are looking forward to the pool parties, barbeques, and beautiful firework displays.

However, with such an exciting opportunity to enjoy your time, comes the risk for people drinking and driving. We know it is easy to get caught up in the delight of the holiday and it is perfectly acceptable to partake in responsible drinking. The problem is that many people don’t realize when they’ve had too much and are far too willing to get back behind the wheel after a few drinks--which can lead to extremely severe consequences, least of which start with a DUI.

Consider the following tips to avoid getting a DUI this Fourth of July weekend:

  • Designated driver – If someone doesn’t want to commit to being the designated driver that is no longer a problem! With the advent of ridesharing apps such as Uber and Lyft, you no longer have the excuse that you didn’t have a way home other than driving yourself. If you don’t want to do that, consider calling AAA and having your car towed home.
  • Sleep elsewhere – The party’s host should expect there may be people who need a place to stay after a long night of drinking. Feel free to sleep there instead of braving your way home.
  • Walk home – If all else fails, this is safer than getting behind the wheel under any circumstance.
