Governor's Media Advisor, Arrested on DUI Charges in Denver

Max Potter, Gov. John Hickenlooper's senior media adviser, was arrested in Denver Wednesday on suspicion of driving under the influence, police said. Denver police officers are saying that Potter was pulled over just before 11pm on the 4400 block of E. 14th Avenue for driving with his lights off.

Potter, who refused to undergo a roadside sobriety test or chemical testing, was taken into custody after he spoke with slurred and mumbling speech, his breath had a strong odor of alcohol, and he was stumbling with bloodshot and watery eyes, according to a police report.

He was arrested and charged with DUI, failure to display proof of insurance and failure to display headlamps, according to the Denver Police Department.

Kathy Green, Hickenlooper's spokeswoman, issued the following statement Thursday:

"We understand that Max Potter was charged late last night with suspicion of driving under the influence. We take this seriously and know Max will as well. This happened outside the scope of his employment and now will be handled by the judicial process."

Mr. Potter will surely need a Denver DUI attorney who gets results, like The Orr Law Firm. First offenders of a DUI like Max are subject to license revocation for 9 months to 1 year, a $600 to $1,000 fine, up to 1 year in jail, and up to 96 hours community service as well as alcohol education and therapy classes.
