Colorado Woman Killed in Three-car Accident

A Colorado Springs woman was killed in a car accident in Black Forest last week, according to a report from FOX21 News.

Colorado State Troopers told the news source that the accident occurred at around 4 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 19, and involved three cars at the intersection of Burgess Road and Wakely Road. A 2015 Hyundai, driven by Damon Fields, 49, of Colorado Springs, was forced to swerve to the left around a 2009 Nissan that was stopped and waiting to make a left turn onto Wakely Road. Though the Hyundai only hit the left rear corner of the Nissan, it also hit a Mercedes-Benz head on that had been traveling in the opposite direction.

Most of the drivers and passengers suffered minor injuries. However, Cynthia Fields, 55, who was riding in the passenger seat of the Hyundai, was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital as a result of her injuries.

All those involved in the accident had been wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash. The crash still remains under investigation, though authorities did say that drugs and alcohol do not appear to have been factors.

Accidents happen on the road, and unfortunately they are sometimes fatal. Depending on the cause of the accident, those deemed responsible may find themselves charged with vehicular homicide, which is a highly serious charge that can carry a severe sentence, including loss of license and even jail time.
